I believe the art of tattooing is no different than that of the classic fine arts of painting, sculpting, music, ballet, opera, theater, wine making, culinary excellence and the like.
Each process demands discipline and a dedication to excellence by the crafter. The artisan must be educated and knowledgeable in all aspects of his craft; taking lessons from the masters who preceded him. Materials and conditions must be of the highest quality and patience is most definitely a virtue.
A sensitivity to the clients personal tastes and an innate ability to translate their needs into a fine work of art is essential in creating what would be considered a thing of beauty.

Zulu was raised on Siesta Key Island, Florida. As a child he had already begun to develop as an artist and musician. When Zulu was 9, a young friend of his from Africa asked him to participate in a "rite of passage" ceremony that celebrated his friend becoming a man of the tribe. This experience sparked an intense curiosity about his own African roots and would later inspire a career helping others find a connection to their heritage.
He attended Ringling School of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida then moved to Los Angeles and began a successful career as a commercial designer, graphic artist and studio musician. While he enjoyed professional success, the lifestyle of a musician and the work he was doing as a designer, did nothing to fulfill his spiritual side. He yearned for something more meaningful; a way to touch others and change lives.
Being one of the most respected and world reknowned tattoo artists, he is constantly being interviewed regarding his tattooing and life's philosophies. He has been photographed by such well known photographers as Chris Rainier and Donald Graham. He has also been featured on Fox 11News in a compelling interview with Jeff Michael, NPR's "News and Notes," A&E's "Tattoo Fixation," The History Channel's "Ancient Ink," and a 2005 Tribeca Film Festival Selection, "Modify," amongst many others.
Today, Zulu continues helping others navigate their own personal journey to find their perfect sacred mark. It is his philosophy about the craft and his exceptionally skilled hand that has attracted a loyal following of people serious about their body art, including an extensive celebrity clientele; including Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey, Queen Latifah, Bruce Willis, Montel Williams, Christina Aguilera, Carrie-Anne Moss, Alanis Morissette, Ben Vereen, Rosie O'Donnell, Katey Sagal, David Duchovny, Lisa Bonet, just to name a few.
