Terroni
Los Angeles, CAOh shit, I love this place
OK, so this is my new face for the year. It's a low key, no reservations, 80's music playing (not sure if every night but was for the last two), Italian restaurant that makes you freak out for carbs all over again.
They have at least 17 pizzas. Thin crust and not sliced (makes you work a bit but well worth it). I've already tried three (take that you no carb diet) including spicy sausage and gorgonzola (much milder than it sounds), speck and italian creme, and the classic margarita. No lying here, I am now dreaming of pizza.
They also feature a specials menu where i sampled the Burrata Ravioli, eggplant rollatini, and the Branzino. They pride themselves on all imprted tomatos, cheeses, and oils from italy. They say it's all relatively preservative free. I dunno but I dont care. Seriously folks, I'm in love.
While they are open for lunch, I've dined at night twice in one week now. If you can't get a table (as they are busy) they turn around quickly or I recommend ponying up to the bar and chowing down there. The staff is uber friendly (in fact we went out with the bartendress and host after). Ask for Evelyn who is one of the managers, Kat the bartender, or Jon the host.
We also met Max, the owner, and he graciously gave us a grappa tasting where I found a grappa I'm sending over to Jack.
Please check this place out!!!
Cobras & Matadors
Los Angeles, CAGreat tapas
Fun place to get a bunch of small plates and share with friends. Heard there is a new menu and going tonight to check it out.
Ok- New menu rocks:
Artichokes, spicy lamb, scallops all amazing. Bread pudding dessert not so great. Odd, as it should have been....
Papa's Tacos
Laguna Beach, CATacos of the Gods
I'm not one to ever rave about a frickin taco but this roadside dive (it's like a lil hut) makes by far the most delicious soft tacos that I have ever had. You must try the carnitas and the shrimp tacos. Chase it down with a Mexican soda as no liquor is served there (but there is a liquor store next door if you have to have a shot of Patron)
Katana
West Hollywood, CAMy Home Away From Home
I love this place. Brilliant food both hot and cold. I'm a big fan of asking what the server's recommend but by now, i know the full menu by heart. Great scene on the patio. Drink the 'fusion' drink on the rocks, get some tuna carpaccio and miso black cod, and your in for an amazing night.
Bar Marmont
West Hollywood, CAThe Bar
Next door to the Hotel is a great bar/restaurant. The chef, Carolyn, comes from New York's Spotted Pig. Every starter is frickin amazing (go for the lamb sausage, potatoes w/ sour cream and trout, and the fried baby artichokes). Entree's equally insane like the pork shank and the halibut. Trendy scene and amazing martini's make this one of my steady hangs.
