I love Pinto Thai. They have plenty of veggie/vegan options and I love their brown-rice blend. Not only nutty and delicious but it has a great texture too. As with most places in San Diego, I can't usually convince them I want it as spicy hot as I really do, but as with any Thai restaurant you can ask for the chili-tray and they'll bring it to your table. I love the spicy pumpkin stir-fry. I should add the venue is small so I wouldn't recommend taking a large party here.

Really a fun place and they're open 24-hours. Fairly simple menu. The food is great, the staff are fun and diners are generally friendly. I love the giant pancakes (try them with chocolate chips). Veggie options (you can ask them to keep your food away from meat on the grill).
Buca Di Beppo

If you take a group, reservations are recommended and call in advance. For special occasions (of 10-14 people I believe is the range) request the Pope's Head table...but it is often booked months in advance. It's cool because the concave ceiling allows people across the table to hear each other clearly (thought you hear those either next to you or directly across the table best). They no longer have my favorite dish at our local location (sautéed escarole), but no matter. They have plenty of great dishes.

Delicious food, plenty of veggie and vegan options. One of my favorite dishes (veggie but not vegan) is the mollete - toasted bread with vegetarian refried beans, cheese and salsa. It's often busy but worth the wait.

This is a fun little local place. They have great sandwiches, veggie-burgers and hot dogs. One of my favorites is the veggie meatball sub. So delicious. They have veggie and vegan dishes. If you haven't been, be sure to get it on your "to do" list!
