James Beach Restaurant
Venice, CAVery Venice
With board shorts as lights and indoor palm trees growing right through the roof -- which actually opens at night to let in the beachy breeze. The bar gets packed in the evening, so if you want to eat dinner in peace, I suggest trying for a table in the separate room in back. Otherwise, grab a Corona and join the party!

Manchego
Santa Monica, CAQue rica!!!
I was worried I would have to return to Andalucia to satisfy my Spanish cravings. Discovering Manchego has (temporarily) cured me. Tapas: Baked brie, membrillo, honey, dried figs; Gazpacho; Tortilla; and some increible caviar/salmon/potato combo. They don't have a liquor license yet, so feel free to bring your own wine...which can be obtained at the liquor store 2 doors down.
Huckleberry Cafe and Bakery
Santa Monica, CAWhy this place is packed on Sundays.
Diet break day. You could really fall off your regimen at Huckleberry. Don't even look at the menu and don't waste your time with the salads. You want the buttery sugary baked goodness next to the cash register. Just point (and drool) at whatever looks best. It's always worked for me!
Wokcano
Santa Monica, CALaidback Lunch
Get a $25 mani-pedi next door. Then to Wokcano for the sashimi salad. And obviously no mani-pedi/sashimi lunch is complete without a few bottles of hot sake to wash it down.
Nobu San Diego at the Hard Rock Hotel
San Diego, CAA few hours, a few dishes, a few bottles of sake
Jalapeno hamachi is my favorite sushi dish and Nobu gets it just right.
And their miso cod is like buttery candy...or crack ;)...but probably better for you.
