Fenwick Bakery
Parkville, MDBest Bakery in Baltimore
I don't know of any other scratch bakery. Everything tastes great and a few items are so heavenly that I return often from Colorado to get them. Specifically, I'm mad for the crumb buns, peach cake and pound cake. The donuts knock my socks off, too.
Boston's Deli & Pizza
Bremerton, WAThe Don of Boston
This place is delicious. Good slices, great calzones, and a friendly staff. Don is fun as hell to talk to. The canolli were SO GOOD. Quality ingredients, simple dining room... Just like back east.
Jimmy & Drew's 28th St Deli
Boulder, COAn Esquire piece on the country's best sandwiches pointed me towards this gem that was right under my nose. The featured favorite: Jimmy's favorite- a rueben with latkes instead of rye bread. I was kicking myself for not coming to Jimmy and Drews sooner. The food is kinda Chicago/Jewish, just like Bubbe used to make.
Papermoon Diner
Baltimore, MDDelicious, and a little creepy
Don't let the walls populated with dolls and action figures (which stare at you, or maybe just me) keep you from enjoying your 10pm breakfast. The Un Salmon is a yummy omelet with cream cheese and salmon, one of my favorites. They serve lunch but I can never get past the breakfast part of the menu. The desserts always look delectable, but I'm always too stuffed to try one.
Ras Doobie De Chef Catering
Baltimore, MDCarolyn's
A friend brought my wife and me to Carolyn's. We needed a reservation, but when we got there we were greeted like we were just some friends coming over for dinner. The menu is kinda just a formality, and Carolyn will tell you what they have that's good that day. Everything that Ras Doobie de Chef did was spectacular- whitefish, lamb, plantains....
Carolyn's might even be gone, it's been a while since I've been in town. That would be a shame.
