Eden Ave Grill is the power breakfast place in Edina

This place and the Sofitel in Bloomington are the best power breakfast places in the SW Twin Cities. It's not on the menu, but ask for the Fried Egg Sandwich.

Gunflint Lodge: Dog weekends

It's a trek (6.5 hour drive from the Twin Cities), but dog weekends at the Gunflint Lodge in the Superior National Forest are a great winter getaway. We've done it three times. We haul our two hounds up there and hibernate in our own cabin, enjoying the great restaurant at the lodge, and getting out on the frozen lake and the trails with the dogs a few times a day. Also, doing dog sled rides looking for moose with the lodge's dog team.

Cafe Levain gets it right the second time

Bravo to Levain for abandoning the too fancy/too expensive Manhattan restaurant experiment in favor of a casual neighborhood cafe. But, it's a cut above most other Minneapolis cafes in the food and wine. Great discovery last time: a Spanish white wine called Basa.
