Ivan Kane's Cafe Was
Hollywood, CAGood Hollywood Spot
This restaurant not only has good food but it has such a fun vibe. With all the slickness that comes to all the new Hollywood restaurants Ivan Kane really brings us some relief by making this restaurant fun and comfortable. It kind of reminds me of an updated "Haunted Mansion" (in a very positive sense), with a chandelier casually laying lit in the corner and burning candles sitting on open books by the stairs.
They have a great menu and they have a canape not to be missed. Their goat cheese stuffed dates wrapped in bacon with 12 year balsamic on it is amazing. I know you think that you've tasted stuff dates before but trust me these are top notch.
They have a Bohemian dinner that is price fixed for 30 or 40 bucks. Not sure how they can give you so much food for so cheap but that works in your favor if you get it!
While on the subject of being thrifty they have a bottomless glass of wine for $15 a person. A good deal for some including a lightweight like me who can only drink two glasses!
Little Dom's
Los Angeles, CAEven better on Monday's!
Casual and delicious Italian food with a great energy. The Italian Wedding Soup as well as the Fried Artichoke and Shrimp appetizers are so simple yet wonderful. They have a wonderful promotion every Monday night that is the best deal in town. You get a set meal consisting of appetizer, entree and dessert for just $15. Also, there house red and white is only $10 for the bottle (with a wonderful label designed by artist Gary Baseman). Even though the meal is enough food, I can never help but add on an extra appetizer!
The outside seating is on the street and they have heaters but I suggest requesting an inside table as it fell more fun even though it is can get a little noisy.
The French Laundry
Yountville, CAFood at its finest
The French Laundry is most definitely the top restaurant experience one can have (if you are fortunate enough to secure a reservation!). It is truly haute (that's French!) cuisine. The food is incredible, the service impeccable and the setting is truly comfortable and inviting. It is probably my top pick if you have a special occasion to celebrate as a meal there is always memorable! It is worth a trip to Northern California just to visit this gem of Thomas Keller.
