About Gloriana35

Starving artiste - loving life - 50+. (My default photo is from 1997. The other photograph is from early 2009, but for some reason the colour is odd - I can assure you that I'm neither jaundiced nor possessed of scarlet cheeks and nose.) Special interests in the arts and humanities, the Middle Ages, pubs, humour, decorating, fashion (half Paris, half Woodstock - I wear mostly batik). Baby boomer (strait laced variety) who still loves 1960s rock, trolls, astrology, and tie dye. Smoker, low carb cook, cat lover. Love to laugh. Intellectual type - degrees in music, humanities, and divinity. Would rather be in London all of the time.

My recommendations generally are for reasonably priced stores and restaurants (or those on which those with moderate incomes could splurge for the occasional special treat.) I have tried to include as many free attractions, or those for which one may make a free will donation, as possible - some others are expensive but worth a visit. I generally do not include stores or restaurants which may be of exceptionally high quality if they would be out of reach for those of my own class.

  • Income: Less than $25K

  • Relationship Status: Single
  • Kids: Have no kids

Red Lobster

New York, NY
Enjoyable menu

Actually, the Times Square location has higher prices and often does not accept promotional coupons - but its location is very accessible in mid town. Red Lobster has a nice variety of food and drink, well prepared.

Delightful spot

This is a pleasant, relaxing spot with both outdoor and indoor dining. French food is of good quality, at reasonable prices for Manhattan. Charming, classic ambience and décor. Musical entertainment is available on some evenings.

Good value

The atmosphere of the Clifton restaurant is comfortable and attractive. The menu changes regularly, as is typical of Charlie Brown's locations, and there often are specials at very reasonable prices for the area. The salad bar, particularly at lunch (when it includes meats, cheeses, and fruits), is a fine value. There is ample parking or accessibility by bus. Though the quality of some dishes may vary, the prime rib is uniformly excellent, and there are many menu selections, plus a large variety of drinks, at any time.

Tea & Sympathy

New York, NY
British food and cosy ambience at its best

The title of this post captures it all. Genuine British food, exceedingly well prepared, is available in this cosy spot. Prices are rather high, but it is a perfect spot for a treat. The very presentation of the tea (fresh brewed, of course) in unmatched china, with genuine treacle tart on the side if one wishes, is a great pleasure. Varied meat, chicken, and lamb pies are excellent, and the full English breakfast is wonderful.

Tea and Sympathy is a very small restaurant and one must not count on immediate seating - or intend to sit and talk for hours after one finishes. The attached shop has wonderful gift items as well as imported food.

Lovely atmosphere for a tea break

Fair trade teas and light items are available. I especially like having a pot of Earl Grey at an outdoor table during the summer. Very pleasant atmosphere. It is a bonus that the surrounding area has many interesting shops.
