Julie's Garden

Very fast, friendly, and inexpensive

Julie and her family are great people. Julie's Garden restaurant is a great place for dining! What it lacks for in decorum it makes up for in the quality of food, service, and price.

I have frequented here on several lunch dates and usually am after for the special of the day or I do the Pho. Either way, the food is out fast and tastes great!

With a restaurant catering to the lunch crowd, it's surprisingly easy to grab a seat. It may take literally a minute or so, but the turn around is timed perfectly so you can sit, relax, and enjoy the fare offered.

Lunch specials are under $10 per person and you are guaranteed to walk out satisified.

If you want to enjoy the cuisine away from the restaurant, they do take 'take away' orders and also have a small delivery radius.

The Best Steakhouse in Seattle

There are several ways to enjoy The Metropolitan Grill, or The Met, as it is affectionately referred to as.

The first is for Happy Hour, considered one of Seattle's best that runs from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm Monday through Friday and serves up such delicious treats as Three Beef Dip sandwiches at $2 (yes, for all three); $2 Raw Oyster Shooters (an Oyster in a shot glass with crushed ice, cocktail sauce, and horseradish served on the side); or go more deluxe with things like the deeeelicious Bacon Wrapped Tenderloin Skewers served with this wicked sauce and crispy onions for $5. *a little tip: The Works Burger for $5 at Happy Hour is the same as that of the $14 one they serve outside of Happy Hour. Get there early as it does fill up fast.

The second way to enjoy The Met, which also involves the bar area, is to enjoy one the amazing drinks served there: personally for me it's the Smokey Met Martini - a splash of scotch in the mix, but there are a host of drinks that can satisfy and take the "blahs" away. Of course this doesn't mean you can't enjoy the killer food at give away prices during Happy Hour.

Lastly and the best way to enjoy The Met is to dine there. The prices are comparable to other Steak Houses in the city but the quality is near, if not at the top. I can only compare The Met to El Gaucho on First Avenue where the penguins serve you although the two establishments are very much different.

The atmosphere at The Met is roomy and very 'old school' with a lot of wood and marble - it used to be a bank ages ago. The food is divine - steaks are incredible serving the real deal Kobe Beef from Japan, the service is exceptional, and coupled with the atmosphere and friendly staff, it is sure to make your visit to The Met a memorable one. You might even want to come back the next night!

Steelhead Diner

Seattle, WA
Can be like Stainless Steel or Rusty Iron

Steelhead has a lot of "Pro's" but also a lot of "Con's" that make more of a three star than anything else.

The food is good and the menu changes often enough that you can't get bored but sometimes the offerings aren't as delectable as described. The place is noisier than some places, it is a 'Diner' afterall, but in large groups you find yourself almost on top of one another. Too crowded!

The wine list is decent too but ask on quantity and availability. When I ordered a particular red for my group I was informed that they had one bottle remaining. Not bad considering there are others to select from but when being pressed to have the first bottle and 'move on from there' I wasn't impressed.

The bar is nice however and if you're in for a drink before heading elsewhere it's a good place to stop. A peek-a-boo view of Puget Sound helps with that. If you're early and the weather is nice you can also get out on their patio.

Price is comparable to most for what you get so there's no complaint there. Though the service? Flip a coin...

Where's the Curry Gravy?!

The Owl & Thistle, or those who know it well, "The Owl" is a great place to chill and relax on any given night. Without going into too much detail to spoil the surprise, it's a place worth checking out whether you're in for pub fare, strong drink, an Irish theme, or just to hang with friends for a few beers shooting pool. Shhh Free Pool on Mondays (All Night Long!).

The atmosphere borders that of most pubs - dark and scarce of light - but with a warm, welcoming presence. The local bar flies are a decent bunch and will chat it up if offered. The staff are friendly and service is good.

As mentioned the drink can be strong and worth it; selection of beers is up there as they do have many taps offering a variety; and the food is really good and inexpensive. I'd recommend most anything but am partial to the hummus and their chicken strips with hot (think a Frank's Hot) sauce.

The only downer I have with the place - and it's more to those who have been there and know what I mean - is that they do not offer the curry gravy and fries any more. That stuff was great!

Four stars because of the lack of Curry Gravy.

Awesome Artisan Meats

Though there aren't many artisan cured meat establishments I have visited, I would have to say that this is likely the 'best of the best' for what they offer. A selection of fine cured meats. Personal favorites are the Mole and Finocchiona which are stellar!

I haven't been able to enjoy their sandwiches though I do hear from reliable sources that they are divine.

Your best bet for times to visit are after 12:30 pm as the lunch crowd - which typically end up extending outside the building - is beginning to die down. Or call ahead if you know what you're after. You can by pass the line and pick up your selections at the counter.
