Sonny McLean's may be my favorite bar in SoCal...because it is so un-SoCal. It was started by a bunch of guys from Boston who bemoaned the fact that there were not really any East Coast/Boston-style bars in L.A. (without attitude or posers). So they created this little bit of Boston right there on Wilshire Blvd. Even if you can't stand the BoSox (and who can?...go Yankees!), it's just a great place.

This is my favorite restaurant in L.A. It combines all of my favorite elements...great old-school Hollywood atmosphere, the absolute best steak in town (order it "Pittsburgh-ed" or "charred"), one of the only restaurants in SoCal where you can get N.Y.-style bread...you gotta love it!

I LOVE this place! It's old-school/retro/dive complete with the table jukeboxes at each booth. And they have the best burger (REAL char-broiled on an open char pit, not that fake char-broiling) and great old-timey crinkle-cut fries!
Joe's Pizza

OK, this is it...FINALLY! You've heard it before...you can't replicate REAL N.Y. pizza in L.A. Well, Joe's Pizza in Santa Monica has done it. In fact, it's as good, if not better, than a slice you'd get in The Big Apple! And when you are in The Apple, check out Joe's original branch on Bleeker Street. Run, don't walk, to Joe's for great N.Y. slices!
