Orange County Mining Co
Santa Ana, CAHad a friend's rehearsal dinner here and the old school miners theme was fun.
Contour
Seattle, WASunday break beats dance party get down...DJ was pretty excellent and it got pretty busy around midnight, especially for a Sunday. Apparently this is a very popular night and it's their 4th year going...really glad we went.
Zig Zag Cafe
Seattle, WAI scoped out Zig Zag after having it recommended to me here and when the foodies recommend it, you know it's good. I have to admit, we didn't try the food, but we found 2 stools at the bar and quickly made friends with Erik who tends bar and knows everything under the sun about making drinks and mixology - Eric also looks like Leo Dicaprio from Titanic... I really enjoyed watching him do his thing.
We had just been cruising Seattle for hours and were really thirsty wanting beers, but decided to go the cocktail route since that's what Zig Zag is famous for. I told Erik I wanted something cucumber inspired and he made me three different drinks that were really refreshing and tasted like vacation...hands down amazing and watching him create was the most fun.
Come here on a date, with your girlfriends or a crew of your friends and give yourself an hour or two to chill out. Next time I come I am ordering some of their food and want to sit on their patio outside.
Bring someone who is willing to go above and beyond ordering a beer or wine since there are so many tasty drinks to try.
Spur Gastropub
Seattle, WASmall Plates & Fancy Drinks...
Recommended to us by Eric from Zig Zag, we cozied up at the bar and ordered the miner's greens with roasted artichokes which had the most amazing smokey yogurt sauce. We then went for the parmesan, olive and garlic gnocchi and finished with short ribs with au gratin. I had a glass of pinot and the bartender made my date a bourbon cocktail - we didn't know what it was, but it was delicious and could also make you grow hair on your chest.
We took our time to eat and drink and the bartender was more like a mixologist than a bartender, making potions with agave nectar, syrups, liquors and tasting all drinks before serving them. It was really cool to watch. We actually took our time to taste everything and savor the experience.
Spur has a very hip and understated western theme with lots of leather, brass, heavy woods and some cow hide.
I would start my night here or end with dessert. I will definitely come back and bring friends to enjoy.
