Los Angeles, CAGreat outdoor space...
I love this space in the summer (and not just because I can walk to it). They have a great outdoor patio space complete with firepits. The drinks are great and there signature cocktail menu is long. If you're hungry, the food is amazing too. Definitely try the cuban sandwich,sweet potato fries and the cupcake sampler for desert.
Ford's Filling Station
Culver City, CAWorth the trip
This place is one of the reasons that Culver City is on the culinary map and it is definitely worth the trip. Best described as a gastro-pub there is warm, friendly (though sometimes crowded) atmosphere. Start with a board of cured meats and cheeses - then move on to the flatbreads (the one with meatball if they have it). The burrata with beets and short ribs are also yummy. They have a full bar with great drinks and nice bartenders. The outside patio is great for people watching on a weekend night.
James Beach Restaurant

Although the bar scene here can get overwhelming, the restaurant is in it's own space (with it's own bar) and it is worth the trip. Really consistent California cuisine with a lot of fresh, local ingredients - and they make a killer martini (with side car). Great nightly specials too. Every Sunday night is Thanksgiving turkey dinner and the stuffing is amazing!
Tudor House
Santa Monica, CAFun place for a weekend lunch (with the ladies)
The Tudor House has a kitschy style (complete with uniformed sassy Brit waitresses) that makes for a fun weekend tea with friends. They do an inclusive tea menu with a wide variety of finger sandwiches and tea choices. Definitely try the welsh rarebit and the crumpets. On your way out, head through the connected store to stock up on those hard to find British grocery items and a huge tea selection.
Al Gelato Continental Desserts

Yes the gelato is amazing here - and try to save room for some. But, the food is worth a trip of its own. Italians I know (very well) have deemed the simple (but yummy) creations worthy of a traditional Sunday dinner. The menu is short and most items are served family style so bring some friends. Try the rigatoni with marinara and the gnocchi with pesto and then share a house salad and a side of meatballs and chicken cutlet - and soak it all up with the great homemade bread. They don't serve wine, but you can grab a bottle from the liquor store across the street or bring your own. There are a few tables outside that are great on a warm night (and offer some better atmosphere than the over-lit interior).
