This hotel is HOT, with a hip lobby and pool area, where cabanas are a KEY! While lounging poolside, The Kobe burger with pomme frittes is very good...for $20. It has become the only place to be during weekends on the West Side; but getting in requires being a guest at the hotel or being on the exclusive V.I.P. list. Located 1 BLOCK from the beach, throw on some sandals and enjoy a very hip scene.

Upscale place for drinks by the pool
Interesting mix of out-of-towners and locals, one of the few places in S.M. that feels a little more adult... Get to know the staff and they'll treat you well, Lucian the bartender is a good guy. Rooms are nice, sort of Ian-Schrager-ish... Whist Restaurant is nice if you get there early, get a table outside by the pool + cabanas. I think it would be a fun place to get a cabana for a party someday but haven't done that yet.

Couldn't agree more on the South Beach feel, especially out at the pool at night. This hotel is THE advertising hotel, so expect a very young crowd that parties late. Very nice rooms, great food available, and extremely friendly staff.

An all around luxurious place to stay, have breakfast, dinner and cocktails. Bring your own cabana boy and beware of the cougars.

South Beach in Santa Monica

This place is close to the beach, but the outdoor pool is the best place to hang out. Even if it is at night for cocktails, it feels like South Beach in Miami. But much better because it's in the middle of Santa Monica.

This is one of the "hipper" hotels in SM. Great place for a networking event or party or simply to take a client for a drink/meeting. Excellent feel and just cool.

Viceroy Santa Monica is an All-time Fav

Stayed at this hotel with my wife on the advice of a friend who's more familiar with the area than I am. What a great choice. A really cool atmosphere... very urban. Customer service is what you'd expect from a high end hotel, but the price was actually very reasonable. The room was very clean and contemporary. Nice big flat screen and a great mini bar. Plenty of room with a comfy bed. Great restaurant and bar on site, but within comfortable walking distance to a bunch of great restaurants on Ocean Blvd. Concierge was very accommodating. I won't stay anywhere else in Santa Monica.
