The Spotted Pig is an English gastro-pub, right? Chef April Bloomfield is English at least, though her menu is often Tuscan. No questions of provenance can keep us from adoring her gnudi - noodle-less ravioli, which she's been dabbing with pesto lately.

The Spotted Pig can serve many purposes. It will serve up a really fabulous, upscale pub meal when the mood strikes (no reservations accepted and on busy nights you'll have to wait). The burger is divine.
It is also a great spot for a night cap after a night out. Once the dining rush has slowed down the bar becomes less hectic. It's a great spot for a pint or a glass of wine.

ok...so only NYC has the resources, the style factor and the caliber of traveled yet laid back Chef nerds to provide an experience like this one. This place rocks! You have to be somewhat of a foodie to really get it, (except for the killer burger) but an average joe to dig the environment. It's chill, relaxed and unique with a wait staff of grizzly looking dudes in t-shirts contrasting a very committed kitchen staff passionate about their seasonal British-Italian menu. Chef April Bloomfield keeps the kitchen open til 2am 7 days a week. BTW... as an indication of professional curiosity, last time i was there i was in the company of Chefs Mario Batalli and Marco-Pierre White!

I ate here last week after hearing a great deal about it from my wife. We had drinks in the private kitchen, which is certainly the place to be, and then dinner on the second floor. The service was fair, the food interesting and just fine. The atmosphere is the real charge here with a great scene going on at the bar downstairs and up. I would definitely go back for drinks, not out of my way for dinner.
