The old Bel Age Hotel...brings a bit of London to Los Angeles. It's central to everything and the rates are really, really reasonable. I found it fun that tea was served everyday by the rooftop pool (feels rather important); food is covered by British chef Gordon Ramsay (ever watch Hell's Kitchen?), however, I've yet to eat there cause i'm scared the meal comes with Gordon cursing me out! A nice touch I found is the hotel's English bulldog, Garbanzo, greets guests in the lobby.
Price: $$
Tip: Great weekend pool to lounge by with cabana's. Parking next to Viper room.

The London is my favourite hotel in Los Angeles, it has a great nightly rate, which I'm sure will go up soon. Great rooftop pool and fitness centre. I ended up staying for 3weeks when i was only meant to be there for one. My second favourite LA hotel is the Beverly Hills Hotel, I do love it, but The London is far better value for money. And there are free calls to London, which is a great bonus for a Londoner such as myself. The cocktails on the rooftop are great, there is a huge outdoor chess board on a lower level for chess lovers, the Gordon Ramsay room service is delicious and all the staff are lovely & respond quickly to all requests. It is however not as private a hotel Chateau Marmont and The Beverly Hills Hotel, so if you want to keep a low profile it might not be the best hotel for you
