The Inside Word for Sushi Sasa
Westword Best Of
Denver, COBest Sushi Restaurant
At Sushi Sasa, the attention to detail makes all the difference. There's no need here for plastic grass garnishes, lumps of fake wasabi, bias-cut plating or two dozen stupidly named rolls that are all tuna, avocado, cucumber and tobiko. At Sushi Sasa, even the simplest tekka maki is a work of art, lavished with the kind of attention that other places don't even give to expensive rolls. Everything about the space is clean and white and spare, and everything about the kitchen is geared toward maximizing the impact of the fish itself — the tiny moves that could elevate a simple piece of skipjack, shrimp or bonito into something you might remember for the rest of your life.

A lot of people will say Sushi Den but Sushi Sasa has a cleaner vibe, and the food seems more interesting. It's a good scene with some nice options within walking distance for drinks before or after. Located in one of the newest parts of town. Small, so get reservations. We eat here a lot.

You might have a hard time getting a table before 10pm on the weekends, but Sushi Sasa is worth the wait. The fish is flown in from Japan, and the sushi is classic yet innovative.

Male / Steamboat Springs, COWhen our partners from Japan come to visit, they always want to have at least one meal here. They think the food would be considered exceptional even in Japan. The rest of their trip, we eat only western food.

I have booked sushi sasa for quite a few work functions. They have a great downstairs that is cozy and good for large parties. Their sushi rolls are inventive and delicious.

Sushi Sasa proves that even white boys can make sushi and the rest of the staff isn't bad either - Jimmyson! But unfortunately the decor is as white as the patrons (mostly yuppies & yuppie wannbe hipsters)... so you have to find a quite time to go and not be seen, but enjoy the fresh food.
