This hotel has a lot of history. I think it's somewhat of a tourist attraction since Stephen King stayed here while he was writing the shining. The staff is always more than happy to show visitors around and tell them about how the happy horror was created. It's a little eerie but definitely fun.

A must see while in Estes Park. The stairs inside were used to film the hotel scene in Dumb and Dumber, plus the Shinning made for TV was filmed there and the original was inspired by this old hotel. Sit outside on the front porch, drink wine and enjoy the view of Long's Peak.

Inspiration

For Stephen King's The Shining. Although the movie was filmed on a sound stage in England. The made-for-tv movie was shot here in an attempt to stay true to King's vision.
