Step into the J.W. and note how your mind drifts you from from a hotel lounge into the magic of the four elements: Fire, air, earth and water. Earth is our home, and Second Home is superbly designed accordingly. Dine in the courtyard while you are warmed by an elegant line of fire, or feel embraced by the stony walls that buttress the interior's refreshing and clean, earthy backdrop. At the north and south ends protrude these rods and attached are a pair of inconspicuous light bulbs which you will only notice if you take a glance above. The zig zag center of the lightbulb harnessed my attention, but its the detail in Second Home that is most fascinating. Down along your ankles are balloon -like lights that radiate a warm whispering prelude to an undoubtedly striking conversation.
If you're not careful, you might overlook a special part of the Second Home experience. Along the bar awaits well hidden jugs of mystery juice. Request the ever so charming bartender Dean for a swig of their exotic flavored and chocolate chunky elixir. Yes, I imagine the liquor blend has a title but regarding it as a potion just satisfies my exotic fantasy food world. thank you ;)
Their potatoes have mama's home cookin' flare amidst a sophistication that is so crisp it is only else recognized in upscale home décor guides. Squeeky sophistique!
I must take a moment to note the way the scribble sofas (as I call them because the white material looks as if it was scribbled on by a toddler) and box ottomans are situated. I stared at them for a long while until I actually saw them. They are assembled along the walls at an odd angle... as if making their glorious debut because truth be told, they are the unwanted leftovers from the contemporary art museum reject room (sold for a fraction of the original cost.) Although I would chose a different variety of music, it is never an unpleasant distraction. My only other recommendation is that Second Home involve Malbecs in their list of wines. As long as you're in the right company, this secret spot has consistent service and flavorful food options and it never hurts to meet a new face who happens to be traveling through town. On that note I can genuinely say it is my first choice to melt into a mellow night....
Viva la upside down root beer float!
