This is the best market in the LA area to purchase sushi grade, fresh fish - it's not always cheap, but I'd rather pay for good quality when it comes to seafood. Their selection is always great (only place I've ever found good monkfish, ono, opa), the staff is super helpful and they also have plenty of ready to eat foods (seafood salads, fresh made sushi) and fixings for your seafood meal (La Brea Bakery breads, fresh vegetables and herbs, marinades and seasonings). If you need them, request ice packs in your shopping bag to keep your fish fresh on the drive home.
Update: their new location has a small restaurant in the store, which has a delicious menu. It isn't architecturally separated from the store, so be aware if that kind of atmosphere doesn't thrill you, but you know you're getting the freshest of the fresh. Waitstaff was a little off (hey, it's new) - but the food more than made up for it. Great crudo, striped bass and smoked salmon.

My parents used to take me to this place back when it was a hole in the wall. Now it's kind of shi-shi, but still awesome! Great selection. Always delicious and fresh.

Female / Los Angeles, CAConsidering you cannot buy decent fresh fish from even our best supermarkets (okay, sometimes from bristol farms but not from gelsons or whole foods), this is the only place I buy from!
