Famous L.A. hiking spot

This is the best place to hike when it’s not smoggy. It's easy to get to once you park. One minute you’re in the city and the next you’re in the mountains. It's beautiful.

Awesome views of LA...the off trail track is heaps more challenging than the pave trail, for Dale anyway....Good workout with massive scenery in as backdrop.

It's pretty, it's breathtaking, and then you get a little exercise. It's a fun thing to do in Los Angeles. Not on the weekends because it's just way too crowded and you won't find parking. But mid-morning on a nice day, you get to see the Hollywood sign, you can look all the way to downtown, sometimes you can even see the ocean when it's not smog-filled LA. It's cool.

I like to hike here with my friends when I need a quick workout, and need to remind myself that pretty much everyone else in Hollywood is more attractive and in better shape that I am.

LA Hiking

Great place to go on a hike right in the middle of LA. You can either go up the paved path or up the "off road" trail to the top. I recommend the road less traveled...

I like anywhere I can bring my dog.

To me, it's not so much a real exercise thing as it is a mind clearing.

Go Suicide!! Your ass will LUV it!

Runyon Canyon Park is a 130 acre park two blocks from Hollywood Boulevard, just west of the 101 Hollywood Freeway extending north to Mulholland Drive. There are entrances on Fuller Avenue, Vista Street, and off Mulholland. Since 1983 when it was acquired by the City of Los Angeles with a grant from the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy, it has been managed by the City of Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation as an 'Urban Wilderness.' It is a rare example of wild chaparral with its drought-resistant evergreen trees and shrubs only a stone's throw from the hustle and bustle of the Hollywood community.

More than just hiking!

One of the main reasons I love Runyon Canyon is because dogs are permitted off-leash in much of the park which can be entered through three entrances; two at the bottom in the south, and one at the top, in the north. I prefer entering at the bottom through the Vista Gate where I see most people walking to the top, but not me. I run all the way because I’m a bad ass. Oh, and, free yoga classes are taught every day at the Fuller entrance.

Also, if you’re into it, the upper canyon trail is home to a variety of wildlife like owls and hawks; snakes and lizards; and deer and coyote. There are several hundred plant species throughout Canyon too, like black sage, elderberry, California sagebrush, wild buckwheat, golden yarrow, laurel sumac, scrub oak, sugar bush and toyon. I wouldn’t recommend eating any of it like I did. Bad idea.

A great place to bring your dog or for just getting some excercise with friends. Also great views of LA once you get to the top.
