Male / Dallas, TXI'm an ocean guy. The Montage is stupid good. You don't care what it costs. You can go out of the main strip and drive Coast Highway all the way into Newport. In my opinion, up and down the coast, The Montage is unparalleled.

It's right on the beach. The staff is amazing, the food's great. It's close to everything. It's a great place to vacation. It's pretty close to LA, so it's really convenient.

I live in Newport, so it really makes no sense for me to stay here, but what I LOVE to do is schedule an early morning massage and then sit by the spa pool (separate from the main hotel pool) the rest of the day. With your massage you get access to this pool and the gym and can make an entire day out of it - which you should - because you are certainly paying for it.

Montage is a special place. The resort's tag line is "resorts are where you stay, Montage is where you live" and it's true. Some little know things about Montage are the best non-suite rooms in the hotel are the ocean surf rooms on the south side of the resort, request them and arrive before the 4 p.m. check in to secure one because the views of the ocean from your room and balcony are spectacular and it's a more private part of the resort. The hotel's lap pool by the ocean is an adults only pool that is seldom used, so be sure to go to it as some guests miss it for the main family pool, also the spa is amazing. For dining the studio restaurant has outdoor tables if you go in early evening and sit outside there are families of bunny rabbits that run by the outdoor tables and as between that and dining outside in relative isolation over the pacific it's a truely spectacular experience. If you are a foodie make sure to subscribe to or request the hotel's email alerts as they have a visiting chef program and other activities for foodies. The wine list is extensive and the hotel's formal restaurant, the studio, is the best run part of the resort. I dined there two evenings in a row, the first evening they did not have the bottle of wine we ordered, the next evening without prompting they had it and offered it to us, the service was that observant. It's turely a special place and the views and setting are the nicest in southern california

This is my favorite place to visit for a quick trip from L.A. with my husband. Gorgeous views. Beautiful rooms. Really relaxing atmosphere. It's a lovely drive from Los Angeles.
