There are now plenty of so-called Bajan fish-taco joints in town, but where's a place you can really dash in and get one immediately? We'd try La Esquina, the rickety shed that sticks out like a sore thumb at the confluence of Lafayette and Centre streets, where the fish is grilled (rather than fried) to order.

Where else do you have to go through a greasy spoon store front, to a hollow shitty wooden door, that leads you thru the kitchen, to a stairway which finally lands you in this subterranean restaurant with latino graffiti cave paintings on the wall. It's Cuban/Caribbean food and it's good. All kinds of Pork, Beef, Chicken and Fish. Drink margarita's and share tapas here. Great to bring people from out of town, because this only happens in a city like NY.

This place has the best tacos I've had in NYC. And you don't have to try to get in to the downstairs restaurant- there is seating right when you walk in that looks out to Lafayette and Kenmare. Great for a quick lunch stop.
