The Inside Word for Hotel Del Coronado
Jessica Hardy
Female / Los Angeles, CAi could spend the rest of my life at this hotel. it's character is so unique, it really can't be compared to any other beach hotel in the world. it has it's own private electrifying san diego beach, pools, with accompanying restaurant/bars. the room i stayed in was reminiscent of my grandmother's summer house in martha's vineyard. i felt like i was a princess while at this hotel, and never wanted to leave.

Male / 36 / Encinitas, CAYou can go here and request a haunted room. It's been there since the early 1900's, and it was the spot before San Diego became as big as it is. All the movie stars from LA would come down to vacation at Hotel Del.

Amazing outdoor cafe to sit and have lunch and people watch during San Diego's beautiful summer! And the only place where you can ice skate in the winter at a rink on the beach while the sun sets into the ocean. Amazing location.

Just across the bridge from San Diego, Coronado is a sleepy little beach town that happens to boast a fantastic historic resort. It's totally family friendly but not so much so that it's a turn-off for adults trying to have a relaxing jaunt. If the pool has too many kids, head to the private beach. I sort of like staying in the old building that has yet to be substantially remodeled (just make sure you aren't in one of the second floor rooms that overlooks the lobby - it can be a mob scene during check in/check out times) because there's nothing cooler than riding in an old school elevator that still has to have someone operate it full time! AND, you never know when you might encounter one of the ghosts of the Del...! There's great restaurants and places to drink outside and Moo Time ice cream (the precursor to Cold Stone) - I only suggest leaving to grab yummy Mexican from Miguel's (chips & salsa are offered while you wait for a table) right across the street.

Only been there twice but I'd head back tomorrow if I could! This classic is a must see if you are in the San Diego area.

A family favorite - we have been going every summer for the past 7 or so years. No need to leave the grounds as the private beach is 20 yeards from the hotel and there are a couple of great restaurants on premises. If you have kids, hit Legoland first and end up at the Del with Moo Time ice cream for the kids and a Babcock and Story Bloody Mary for mom and dad.
