The Inside Word for Bay Cities Italian Deli

I've never been, it's just that everytime someone brings me a sandwich from this place I eat the whole damn thing and want another. Brings me back to the old country - NYC.

Female / Los Angeles, CAThe bread is baked fresh and the sandwiches are all great. It can be the kind of sandwich that hurts the roof of your mouth because the bread is so crusty and fresh - i'd actually like to run the sandwich over with my car - flatten it and then eat it. totally weird, i know. anyway - everything here is good - the wine, the italian imported dishware, the pasta - lots of hard to find italian specialty ingredients.

The Godmother is the sandwich that conquers them all... Get it with the works.
2nd on the list: The Caprese if you happen to be feeling healthy or if you're a crazy vegetarian.

although the parking can be a little crazy (i try and park on the street), and the line can be a little long, it's all so worth it. the godmother is great, but if you are in a rush, they have some sandwiches pre made in the front. the hot sandwiches (like the yummy meatball and chicken parm) are a separate line that moves very fast. they also have hot peppers for your sandwich on the side. don't forget to shop the market, the olive oils, vinegars, pastas, sauces, spices, you name it they probably have it. it's really great because of all the international products. if you're feeling really sinful...get the mac and cheese with breadcrumbs..sooo good!

I always get caprese - my husband loves the godmother. THE KEY is to fax in your order before you go - then it is ready and waiting for you to pickup. Otherwise, be prepared to wait at least thirty minutes. Also, they have great gourmet itlaian food shopping - unusual pasta shapes, the best cheeses and some hard to find wines.

We all know the bread in LA sucks compared to NY. But this place makes you forget that. Grab any italian hero, sausage and peppers - meatball - the godmother. ALL DELICIOUS. If anyone asks you to order in lunch, tell them you want Bay Cities.

The title says it all. The Godmother is probably the most polular on the menu but everything I have tried is great. The bread is amazing, and the veggies are all fresh. The only thing is do not go there if you are in a hurry because on the weekends in could take 30 minutes to get your order taken. Now, with this comes an opportunity to make a new friend. When you grab your number grab two and then when you see that special someone you want to help out you will become an instant hero. They do have an online option but I have not it tried yet.

i love going to bay cites for a sandwich so much that i go at least once a week. my sandwich of choice is the godmother. this is a sandwich that made me an offer i couldn't refuse. a nice crusty bread filled with some delicious italian deli meats (genoa salami, mortadella
coppacola, ham, prosciutto), provolone cheese, lettuce, tomato and dressing. this is a big and messy sandwich so don't be timid. just jump in and eat!
just be warned the parking here stinks and the lines are long during the lunch rush but the sandwiches are so worth the wait and parking challenge.

Male / Los Angeles, CAAs others have indicated, this is pretty much hands down your best bet for sandwiches in LA. The fresh baked rolls are a big part of the equation, but they also have high quality meats and all kinds of crazy side options. Personally I like the house roast beef- load it up with lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles, pepperoncini, mayo, and italian dressing for a truly epic experience. But you can't wrong here whatever you order. BEWARE: lines on weekends and at lunch time during the week are out of control. Your best bet is to avoid the rush by coming in the morning or later in the afternoon/early evening. If you're going at lunch time- by all means fax or email your order in ahead of time (they don't take phone orders). Closed Mondays.

THIS IS THE BEST DELI EVER!!!!!
It is fantastic. The bread is the best I've ever eaten and the cold cuts are fantastic, the pickles and sweet peppers. A sandwich that is totally worth waiting in line for.
Price: $
Tip: I also recommend the stuffed red peppers...red peppers stuffed with cheese and prosciutto...delish!
